The major US stock indices are struggling off the weekend US tariff news. Pres. Trump is looking to impose a 25% tariff on all aluminum and steel imports. He is looking to enact reciprocal tariffs on all countries by Tuesday or Wednesday. The markets are getting used to the rhythm of the US president or so it seems.
Futures are currently implying:
- Dow industrial average up 247 points or 0.56%
- S&P index up 31 points or 0.51%
- NASDAQ index up 173 points or 0.81%
Last week the S&P and NASDAQ indices both fell for the second consecutive week. Looking at the percentage changes last week shows:
- Dow industrial average fell -0.54%
- S&P index fell -0.24%
- NASDAQ index fell -0.53%
Meta shares are looking for its 16th consecutive up day. Shares are currently up $4.80 or 0.67% in premarket trading. Since January 16 (its last down day), shares are up 16.89%
Shares of Alphabet fell -3.27% last week after earnings and guidance disappointed . Amazon shares also fell (-4.05%) after they announced earnings last week. Both companies shares are trading higher in premarket trading.
McDonald’s announced their earnings today and shares are currently trading up 2.75%
McDonald’s (MCD) Q4 2025 Results:

- U.S. comparable sales fell 1.4% (vs. exp. -0.41%).
- Global comparable sales rose 0.4% (vs. exp. -0.93%).
- International markets exceeded forecasts with 4.1% growth (vs. exp. -0.38%).
